"The Civilization of Maxwell Bright"

*****

Sometimes a movie will come along and really surprise you. The opening moments of this film may put you off - full frontal nudity, vulgarity, poorly shot - but stick with it, and an amazing thing happens. Characters come to life. Real people with multiple dimensions and complexity, brought to life by some truly outstanding performances. Patrick Warburton gives the performance of his career here. And as the plot unfolds and complications arise, though not the complications you may expect from the premise, you are taken with these people through their journey. It is funny and sad, crass and gentle. And it becomes a rumination on life and death. Very highly recommended.
